BERLIN/FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) - The Verdi union is entering wage negotiations for around 20,000 ground staff at the Lufthansa Group with a demand for a 6 percent pay increase. For the lower wage brackets, the union is calling for at least €250 more per month. Negotiations are set to begin Monday in Frankfurt.
"We certainly expect difficult negotiations," said Verdi lead negotiator Marvin Reschinsky. He stated it was unacceptable for the company to refuse to invest in its employees despite its economic successes. "This corporate stance needs to change over the course of negotiations—with the strong backing of our workforce."
Passengers do not need to fear warning strikes at the start of talks in Frankfurt. However, the professional groups represented by Verdi—such as those in technical roles, at check-in, or in customer service—are, like flight personnel, capable of bringing flight operations to a standstill in the event of a dispute. In 2024, only arbitration managed to bring about a resolution./ceb/DP/jha
