RWE announces the signing of a strategic framework agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to strengthen its digital transformation initiatives and support Amazon's efforts toward a more sustainable energy supply.

The agreement builds on an already strong relationship between the companies. Amazon and RWE have successfully signed seven power purchase agreements (PPAs) in the United States with a total capacity of 1.1 gigawatts, helping Amazon power its operations with carbon-free energy.

Under the agreement, AWS will provide RWE with cloud services solutions to advance its digital transformation journey, including artificial intelligence and data analytics capabilities.

These tools will help optimize RWE's decision-making and operational performance across its business, including trading, risk management, and energy asset optimization.

RWE said that this agreement represents an important step in powering digital infrastructure with clean energy and that the collaboration will enable Amazon to identify new sources of carbon-free energy.

AWS has already enabled RWE to improve the performance of certain critical applications migrated to the cloud by 30%. The agreement also provides for closer ties with RWE's AI lab in Seattle to develop advanced forecasting models via the cloud.
