Gerhard Heimpold

Mr. Gerhard Heimpold is a Deputy Head at Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung Halle.
He has been a researcher at IWH since 1992.
His research interests concern especially regional development policy, case studies on regions in East Germany, and analyses of structural characteristics of regions.
Initially, he was affiliated with the Department of Regional and Local Studies (later Department of Urban Economics) at IWH.
He joined the Department of Structural Change and Productivity (formerly Department of Structural Change) in 2008, and coordinated the cross-departmental research field “Regional Development, inter-regional equalization mechanisms and labor markets” at IWH in the period from 2008 to 2012.
He was the acting head of the Department of Structural Change from September 2013 to mid-October 2014.
He studied International Economics at the Higher School of Economics in Berlin.
